TEWKSBURY — Board of Health unanimously bans kratom sales in Tewksbury. The 4-0 vote came after testimony from Holly Trouville, who lost her 25-year-old son, Tyrell, to kratom on February 26, 2024. Director Shannon Gillis explained the state's one-year emergency ban takes effect August 28, 2026, but the town's regulation will remain in place if that ban expires.
In other business, the Board unanimously approved a variance allowing the Wamesit Association Masonic Lodge to keep its 1,000-gallon grease tank instead of upgrading to 1,500 gallons, subject to biennial Title 5 inspections, and ordered a follow-up inspection of the ID system at Petroil, which was cited for selling tobacco to a person under 21.
