Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus In Tewksbury

Town health officials issued a public health notification Tuesday, and Patch reports mosquitoes in Tewksbury have tested positive for West Nile virus, prompting spraying efforts this week.

TOWN HALL

The Health Department released a "Public Health Notification - for Immediate Release" on Tuesday afternoon, though details of the specific health concern were not elaborated in the town's alert itself. The notification comes as Tewksbury Patch separately reported that mosquitoes trapped in town have tested positive for West Nile virus, with spraying planned for the affected areas this week, according to Patch. Residents with concerns about mosquito-borne illness should watch for follow-up guidance from the town.

Separately, the town on Monday reminded residents to pick up after their pets, citing stormwater quality concerns. The News Flash post noted that pet waste left on the ground washes into storm drains and local waterways, and asked dog owners to help keep runoff clean by bagging and disposing of waste properly.

The Tewksbury Public Library has a busy slate of programming on tap. Per Tewksbury Patch, the library plans 19 programs in the coming week, including a bouquet-making session and a tie-dye party for kids, part of its regular summer lineup for families and children.
