Planning Board approves Pinewood Road family suite, targets Echo Auto over safety violations
Planning Board · Meeting of February 9, 2026
Tewksbury Planning Board unanimously approves a Pinewood Road family suite and orders an auto dealer back before the board over repeated Route 38 safety violations. The board voted 4-0 to grant a family suite special permit for 3 Pinewood Road, where architect Alvo Asturian and owner Tom Caffarella plan an 808-square-foot, two-bedroom addition for a daughter and twin grandchildren. The board also continued the 1541 Astle Street public hearing to February 23 and the 485 Main Street site plan review — a near-total redesign — to March 23.
The bulk of the meeting focused on Echo Auto, whose delivery trucks have repeatedly blocked Main Street while unloading car carriers; board member Battaglia said a resident reported a near-miss with a Tewksbury Fire Department truck responding with lights and siren on February 4. "Again, they said it wouldn't happen. But, again, it's happening," Battaglia told colleagues, and the board directed Town Planner Alex to summon Echo Auto's owner to appear at the February 23 or March 9 meeting with a written delivery management plan.
